What came first, the chicken or the egg? It is often a question of many introspective individuals in regards to the order of the mind and body connection. There are many studies including one from 2008 by Dr. Greeson of Duke University, who conducted a clinical trial indicating that the way we think is actually associated with our levels of emotional distress, better quality of life, and our outlook on life. As it is called, “mindfulness practice” can influence the brain, the autonomic nervous system, stress hormones, the immune system, and health behaviors, including eating, sleeping, and substance use, in salutary ways.
Albeit, seemingly new information, back in 1897 another inspired author reported the following: “The mind controls the whole man. All our actions, good or bad, have their source in the mind. It is the mind that worships God and allies us to heavenly beings…All the physical organs are the servants of the mind, and the nerves are the messengers that transmit its orders to every part of the body, guiding the motions of the living machinery….The harmonious action of all the parts–brain, bone, and muscle is necessary to the full and healthful development of the entire human organism.”
Finally, my friends, I will leave you with another ancient passage that will do us all good (body, mind and spirit) and certainly much better than MILK…whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. (Phi 4:8,9)… Now, who can’t use a little Peace…
